The 2011 Greater Sudbury Earth Day Festival was held on Saturday, April 30 at Tom Davies Square and what a great event it was!

This year's festival had a great turnout, great weather (after a week's worth of rain), and a whole host of activities at a new all-encompassing venue--Tom Davies Square!

reThink Green packed the day with loads of activities for all age groups and for a variety of audiences.  There was:

  • Live entertainment featuring "Cuff the Duke", Faye Blais, Ox, Ryan Bishops and N'Swakamok Drummers
  • Environmentally themed film festival with films judged by a selection committee done in partnership with EarthCare Sudbury.  Our feature film this year was "The Vanishing of the Bees" including a presentation by local beekeeper Noel Shank.
  • Art Exhibit on location featuring 20 works from Fromagerie Elgin's 'Taking Root in Sudbury Soil'
  • Children's Festival with Jeff Stewart, Groupe 17, Will Morin and Billingual Storytelling with the Public Library plus a whole host of children's activities including face painting, fishing game, water festival and more
  • 5 Eco-Workshops including topics such as Phosphorous Runoff, Regreening Sudbury, Eco-Friendly Rural Development in Central America, Biomass, and Geothermal and Solar Options for Energy
  • Local Food Fair featuring Frank's Deli, Northern Vegetarian Society, Perogy Princess, Nana's Kettle Corn and reThink Green's very own BBQ
  • 50+ exhibitors.  To see the whole list, click here.
  • Bicycle tune-ups, safety workshops, and two ride shares (Rainbow Routes trail and Bancroft Bike Lane) with the Sudbury Cyclist's Union
  • Amazing door prize giveaways

Many thanks to all the visitors, exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors and many more who helped make this year's event possible.  With what we've been able to accomplish this year, we look forward to next year's event.  We hope to see you there!
